NBA’s Lamar Odom arrested for DUI

LOS ANGELES — Former Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Lamar Odom has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.
The California Highway Patrol said Odom, 33, was stopped about 4 a.m. Friday after a CHP officer saw his white Mercedes-Benz traveling erratically on a San Fernando Valley freeway.
Odom was arrested after failing a field sobriety test. Odom has been jailed on $15,000 bail.
The 6-foot-10-inch forward has played for both the Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.
He became a free agent at the end of last season.
FCS champ North Dakota State stuns Kansas State 24-21
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Brock Jensen backed into the endzone for the go-ahead touchdown with 28 seconds left, and North Dakota State upset defending Big 12 champion Kansas State 24-21 Friday night.
The senior quarterback led the Bison on an 18-play, 80-yard march that ate up 8½ minutes, helping them convert four third downs along the way, and left the Wildcats with virtually no time left to set up a tying field-goal try.
Jensen threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns for Bison, the two-time defending FCS national champions who have beaten Colorado State, Minnesota and Kansas in the last three years.
Jake Waters threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats, who built a 21-7 lead by the third quarter before everything fell apart.
Police: Ex-NFL player beaten in W.Va.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former NFL defensive back and kick returner Fulton Walker Jr. was recovering Friday from injuries after West Virginia sheriff’s deputies said he was beaten during home-invasion robbery earlier this week.
Walker was punched in the face, struck in the head and fell down in gravel several times while trying to escape an assault by two men who entered his Martinsburg home and stole a handgun, said Berkeley County Lt. Gary Harmison.
Police said they arrested the two men shortly after the robbery.
Harmison said Walker told investigators he didn’t know the men. The suspects were armed with a sawed-off shotgun, he said.
Jets QB competition
is ‘ongoing’
NEW YORK — Rex Ryan says people can “assume” that the New York Jets’ quarterback competition is “ongoing” since the team has yet to declare a winner.
Mark Sanchez has an injured right shoulder that might keep him out for at least the season opener, so rookie Geno Smith could get the start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 8. Neither played in the preseason finale win over Philadelphia Thursday night.
Ryan has repeatedly said the Jets aren’t putting a timetable on announcing a quarterback, and even acknowledged it’s a possibility they could enter the season without saying whether Sanchez or Smith won the job.
Ryan, during a conference call Friday, says the situation could gain some clarity next Wednesday — when teams are required to submit their first injury report.
Redskins’ RG3 cleared, but the drama goes on
WASHINGTON — Robert Griffin III is cleared to play. The saga between quarterback and coach goes on.
Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is making Griffin — and everyone else — wait until Monday before announcing who will start in the Week 1 opener.
Griffin was cleared Thursday by Dr. James Andrews, who performed Griffin’s knee surgery in January.
But Shanahan said Andrews also had “concerns” that need to be addressed. However, Andrews on Friday told The Washington Post that he has “no concerns.”
It all fits a pattern that’s been in play since the start of training camp. Griffin makes a statement; Shanahan says not-so-fast. The convention wisdom remains that Griffin will be under center on Sept. 9.
